Northern Ireland’s inaugural AI Castle Conversation

This landmark gathering helped shape the region’s strategic approach to artificial intelligence implementation, adoption, and governance for the next decade.

Set against the historic backdrop of Hillsborough Castle, AI Castle Conversation brought together key voices from government, industry, and academia to explore the evolving role of AI in public sector transformation.

Through thought-provoking discussions, real-world case studies, and interactive dialogue sessions, attendees navigated the opportunities, challenges, and ethical considerations when positioning Northern Ireland as a leader in responsible AI adoption.

How to get there

Arrival

Once you arrive please head to the forecourt, and after a brief bag security check, the wardens at the Gate House will direct you to the State Entrance.

By Car

On route to the Castle, please DO NOT be tempted to follow any brown signs, directing to Hillsborough Castle.

These signs direct to daytime visitors entrance off the A1, at the opposite end of the site. Access to the Castle will not be available from this entrance.

Parking

Ballynahinch Street Car Park
This 55 space car park is situated off Ballynahinch Street. Only a short 5-10 minute uphill walk from the Castle. 
The car park is pay and display (40p per hour) or free of charge after 6pm.

Dromore Road
Street side parking is often available along Dromore Road. A short walk from the Forecourt and castle entrance.

Public Transport

Train: Lisburn station is 5 miles from Hillsborough Castle and Gardens. Bus route 38 connects Lisburn rail station and Hillsborough village.

Bus: The nearest bus stop is Hillsborough War Memorial.

Route 238 is an express service which connects central Belfast to Hillsborough village.

Route 38 is a standard service which connects central Belfast to Hillsborough village going via south Belfast and Lisburn.

Both these services start at Grand Central Station, the main bus station in Belfast.

The pedestrian entrance to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens in Hillsborough village is in The Square at the top of the Main Street. The bus stop is at the bottom of the Main Street.
