Set against the historic backdrop of Hillsborough Castle, AI Castle Conversation brought together key voices from government, industry, and academia to explore the evolving role of AI in public sector transformation.

Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service
Jayne took up her role as Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service in September 2021 and is the first female and external appointment to this post in the institution’s 100-year history.
Permanent Secretary, Department for the Economy
Ian Snowden is the Permanent Secretary of the Department for the Economy since 2023 and has worked in the Northern Ireland Civil Service for 31 years.

Up to December last year Dan was the Chief Digital Information Officer for Health & Social Care in Northern Ireland at the Department of Health. He has moved back to his previous company, Accenture, to work on health and public sector challenges.

A proven leader and entrepreneur, Scott co-founded Analytics Engines on the back of his research during his PhD at Queen’s University Belfast. Over the last 15 years he has grown the company from spin-out to a leading provider of analytics and AI solutions.

Tadhg Hickey is the Head of AI and Digital Ethics Policy at the AI Collaboration Centre, leading the charge in navigating the ethical complexities of AI.

Michaela's career has seen her apply AI and gamification to a wide range of domains including healthcare, finance, education, telecoms and marketing with 70+ publications and securing £30M+ in pedagogic and research funding.

Jim Fitzpatrick is an award-winning independent broadcaster, producer and journalist with a specialist interest in economics and politics.
Fellow, Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University
Thom is a Fellow at Harvard University's Kennedy School, focusing on AI, national security, and public policy. A seasoned entrepreneur and technology executive, he has spent over 30 years building and leading international software companies with a strong emphasis on AI, autonomy, and digital transformation.
Once you arrive please head to the forecourt, and after a brief bag security check, the wardens at the Gate House will direct you to the State Entrance.
On route to the Castle, please DO NOT be tempted to follow any brown signs, directing to Hillsborough Castle.
These signs direct to daytime visitors entrance off the A1, at the opposite end of the site. Access to the Castle will not be available from this entrance.
Ballynahinch Street Car Park
This 55 space car park is situated off Ballynahinch Street. Only a short 5-10 minute uphill walk from the Castle.
The car park is pay and display (40p per hour) or free of charge after 6pm.
Dromore Road
Street side parking is often available along Dromore Road. A short walk from the Forecourt and castle entrance.
Train: Lisburn station is 5 miles from Hillsborough Castle and Gardens. Bus route 38 connects Lisburn rail station and Hillsborough village.
Bus: The nearest bus stop is Hillsborough War Memorial.
Route 238 is an express service which connects central Belfast to Hillsborough village.
Route 38 is a standard service which connects central Belfast to Hillsborough village going via south Belfast and Lisburn.
Both these services start at Grand Central Station, the main bus station in Belfast.
The pedestrian entrance to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens in Hillsborough village is in The Square at the top of the Main Street. The bus stop is at the bottom of the Main Street.
