Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about the AICC's Virtual Learning Environment? Here you’ll find everything you need to know about getting started.

What is the AI Learning Lab?

The AICC's AI Learning Lab is a free, accessible hub for practical, industry-focused AI learning. Whether you're completely new to AI or looking to build on existing knowledge, it brings together online courses, curated external resources, and hands-on workshops which are all designed to help you apply AI with confidence in the real world.

Who is it for?

The Learning Lab is open to anyone resident in Northern Ireland, whether you're a business owner, employee, researcher, or simply curious about AI. You don't need a technical background to get started.

Is it free to access?

Yes. The AI Learning Lab is free to explore. Some pathways, such as funded postgraduate scholarships and access to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), require an application.

What kind of resources are available?

The AI Learning Lab includes a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) with AICC-developed online courses, a curated selection of external courses and certifications from trusted global providers, and information on in-person and online workshops across Northern Ireland. New content will be added regularly. Sign up to the mailing list to be notified.

Do I need to register or create an account?

You can browse the AI Learning Lab without an account. Access to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) requires an application and account creation.

What is the VLE application process and timescale?

Learners will be selected through a short application process, helping us ensure each cohort receives the right level of support and attention. As places are limited, access will be offered based on eligibility, readiness to engage, and alignment with AICC programme objectives. Every application will be carefully reviewed by the AICC team, and where appropriate, we’ll recommend alternative learning pathways or support options to ensure you can still progress on your AI journey.

Applications opened on 2nd April and due to the Easter break, we’ll be reviewing and processing the first batch between Monday 13th and Wednesday 15th April. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by 15th April. After this, applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis.

What is the Virtual Learning Environment?

The VLE is a digital learning platform that will host AICC's digital training programmes. These are designed to help individuals and organisations build practical AI capability. There is a short application process to gain access.

What are the funded postgraduate scholarships?

With support from the Department for the Economy, AICC offers a limited number of fully funded places on AI-related postgraduate courses at Ulster University and Queen's University Belfast. Applications for QUB courses are open on a rolling basis; Ulster University applications follow an annual intake cycle.

Am I eligible for fully funded access to the VLE?

To be eligible you must be settled in Northern Ireland and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years or hold indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK. Places are limited and awarded based on the strength of your application.

How do I access the AICC-developed courses?

You can apply via this form. Applications are reviewed by the AICC team, and successful applicants are contacted with onboarding details and access to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Are the AICC-developed courses accredited?

On successful completion of each course, you will receive a digital certificate you can download and share.

My organisation isn't a tech company. Is the Learning Lab still relevant to us?

Absolutely. The AI Learning Lab is designed for all Northern Ireland residents, regardless of sector or industry. AI literacy is increasingly relevant across every sector, and our resources are built with that in mind.
